Steps to Becoming a 9-1-1 Dispatch Telecommunicator

The application and hiring process for the 9-1-1 Telecommunicator position takes approximately 6 months to complete. You must pass each step in order to continue in the process. Prior applicants are eligible to reapply.

  1. Complete the job application
  2. Complete testing with CritiCall
  3. Interview with the hiring board
  4. Final Interview with the 9-1-1 Manager and 9-1-1 Director
  5. Comprehensive Background Investigation
  6. Receive a conditional job offer contingent on passing medical/psychological exams
  7. Receive a final offer

9-1-1 Telecommunicator Salary & Benefits

The starting salary for an entry level 9-1-1 Telecommunicator is:
$29.18 hourly / $5,058 monthly / $60,703 annually

There are six steps in the 9-1-1 Telecommunicator classification. The salary at the top step of this classification is:
$37.25 hourly / $6,456 monthly / $77,474 annually

Lateral 9-1-1 Telecommunicator:

The Chief of Police has the discretion to start Lateral 9-1-1 Telecommunicators at a higher pay step consistent with years of experience.

Salary Incentives

The Corvallis Regional Communications Center offers several different incentives to 9-1-1 Telecommunicators:

Bilingual: A 5% addition to base salary can be earned by those 9-1-1 Telecommunicators who demonstrate proficiency in a second language.

Additionally, the City of Corvallis offers an excellent benefits package.

Minimum Requirements for 9-1-1 Telecommunicators

Looking to change careers one last time? While no experience is necessary, here are the minimum requirements to be eligible to become a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator:

  1. At least 18 years of age at time of hire
  2. Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  3. Ability to pass a background investigation
  4. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
  5. Ability to meet physical, medical and psychological requirements for the position
